PBCI-CFP INCLUDEV CONSULTANT PARTICIPATES IN FOSTERING SOCIAL ENTERPRISE IN BARMM

Last 15-17 August 2019, our Ina, Joji ‘Lakambini’ Pantoja, represented the Inclusive Development Team of PeaceBuilders Community, Inc. (PBCI) and Coffee for Peace (CFP) at a social enterprise policy forum held at the Office of the Chief Minister, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Cotabato City. Ina made a presentation before key members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), other social enterprise practitioners, and academicians.

Ina takes note of the questions asked by some members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority after her brief presentation.

Ina shared the business model, stakeholder engagement, impact, and challenges experienced by Coffee for Peace — the social enterprise established by PBCI in 2007.

PBCI-CFP Inclusive Development Consulting Team takes pleasure and considers it a privilege to contribute in motivating and encouraging young Moro entrepreneurs in the new Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. We dream with BARMM in seeing the establishment of businesses that practice social justice, social equity and economic efficiency.

We are encouraged to implement the economic-ecological aspect of our peacebuilding work when the leaders of the Moro nation included the institutionalization of Social Entrepreneurship in their Bangsamoro Organic Law (Article 13, Section 27): “The Bangsamoro Government shall recognize, protect and promote the establishment of cooperative enterprise. It shall likewise encourage and promote social entrepreneurship as a means to engage the private sector to assist in the development, funding and implementation of solutions to social, cultural or environmental issues. The parliament shall pass laws to strengthen the growth and development of social enterprise in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region to achieve social justice, social equity and economic efficiency.”

We support the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) as they consider to implement the institutionalization of Social Enterprise as one of the solutions in addressing poverty, restoration of indigenous arts and culture, protection of the environment and promotion of positive peace.

The participants of the forum spent some time discussing how the impact of social enterprise can be measured.

PBCI-CFP will continue to avail ourselves in a series of policy dialogues that would give opportunities for leaders from government, civil society, the private sector and the social enterprise community to come together to discuss how they can develop policies and strategies to support the growth of social enterprises in the Bangsamoro region. We are convinced that these social entrepreneurial initiatives would significantly contribute towards building peace, resilience, inclusion and sustainability as well as increasing productivity and uplifting local economies in the new BARMM.

Tagged as “Bridging the Gap: Fostering social enterprise in BARMM”, this event was a CSO-SEED Masterclass for policy makers and stakeholders in BARMM, hosted by the British Council, European Union, Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism and the Philippine Social Enterprise Network .
