Camp. A place that offers group accommodations and organized recreation and instruction.
Kapayapaan. Filipino word for peace.
WHY?
Campayapaan is a response to the increasing need of peace building education at school level by providing set of activities that would further give a deeper understanding of peace and how it paves way in managing emotions and vibrantly express the range of the youth’s feelings.
Many young people despite often adverse circumstances, choose to engage in constructive initiatives and dialogue instead of being the multipliers of hatred and rejection which fuel prejudice. When supported and recognized in their role, these young people may become peer leaders and educators and, in turn, sensitize and involve other young people in dialogue, mediation, intercultural communication, conflict transformation and peace work projects.
WHO ARE THESE CAMPERS?
They are B’laan students of Bacongco Extension High School, Pula Campus, Barangay Bulol, Municipality of Koronadal, Province of South Cotabato. Campayapaan is happening on 20-26 April 2014.
These indigenous children have grown up in regions being exposed to, and enduring, the consequence of extreme forms of physical, cultural and structural violence. These children are often confronted with dramatic life forming experiences, emotions and challenges. Such experiences may strongly influence the views and behaviors toward their own and other communities, their elation to peace and conflict and their identity.
For PHP2950, you can send one deserving B’laan youth to this summer peace camp. In this week-long series of exciting events, they will experience deeper understanding and practical application of sustainable peacebuilding and cultural empowerment.
