IBRAHIM BALONO IS NOW MINDANAO 'S NO.1 PROFESSIONAL BARISTA!

Ibrahim Balono of Peacebuilders Community Café won the highest award in the 7th Mindanao Culinary Festival, Mindanao Flavor Espresso ChallengeProfessional Category, held at the NCCC Convention Center in Davao City .

Officially, he is now the number one professional barista, or espresso blend designer, in the whole of Mindanao .   A group of executive chefs served as judges in this biggest and most prestigious culinary competition in Southern Philippines .

Ibrahim has been working on an espresso blend called Cifra a la Mode for the past few months.  He practices kai zen
—or, continuous improvement—through a series of comments and suggestions from a group of loyal clients made up of students, NGO workers, foreign missionaries, and local business people.  They served as his informal "focus group" as he sought excellence in the design of his espresso blends.

Cifra a la Mode is citrus-flavored frapuccino with fine chocolate flakes spread on top of thick froth. Cifra a la Mode is Ibrahim's winning entry and our current feature at the Peacebuilders Community Café.

Ibrahim wore his tubao, the traditional Maguindanao Muslim head gear, during the awards ceremony.  He wants to encourage his fellow Maguindanaons to continually reach for excellence in whatever they do as they journey together in the realization of their right to self-determination as Bangsamoro people.  Ibrahim is a creative peacebuilder and is so committed to our dream:
To be a community of peacebuilding teams in Mindanao who are committed to serve with the Bangsamoros, the Lumads, and the Migrants; together we hope towards harmony and lasting peace in our land

We, his tri-people team-mates at Peacebuilders Community, are very proud of our Kaka Ibs!

PEACEBUILDERS COMMUNITY CAFÉ

Visit us at the Peacebuilders Community Café and enjoy the taste of our brewed and espresso blends within a wifi zone!  You will be served by our professionally-trained barista who also knows the story of the community who farmed and processed our featured arabica and liberica, coffee beans.  We serve fair-traded coffee.

We are located at 123 University Avenue cor. Talisay Street , Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City --near Philippine Women's College.  We are open from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM , Monday to Saturday (except holidays).

It all started when Jon Rudy, our strategic adviser here at Peacebuilders Community, came up with the idea of a "coffee for peace."  Three months later, a coffee shop is opened with the following set of objectives:

:: To generate local, sustainable income to finance our full-time peacebuilding team organizers

:: To provide space for peace-loving people to share their ideas on how to advance the cause of peace in the context of their communities

:: To promote the cause of strategic peacebuilding among students and young professionals in our city and around the world

:: To promote Mindanao's fair-traded coffee in the national and global market

This coffee shop was designed by Miss Sheana Bacus, a young architect who was born and raised in Davao City.  Engineer Shearon Bacus, Sheana's twin-sister, managed the project.  The whole construction was led by Engineer Ericson Luzon.  These young professionals from
Davao support the dream of Peacebuilders Community, Inc. and they hope to gather more of their friends to help advance the cause of lasting peace and reconciliation in our land.

Hope to see you at Peacebuilders Community Café.  Salam
