SPECIFIC NEEDS IN ILIGAN TARGET COMMUNITY IDENTIFIED; TEAM DEPLOYED

21.DEC.2011- The PeaceBuilders Community Inc. together with field network and volunteers in Iligan City conducted the needs assessment for the HealthCare, Trauma-Healing, and Relief Operations this 22.DEC.2011.

The evacuees who lost their homes are mostly having colds and flu, diarrhea, and skin diseases.

There are residents who are experiencing signs and symptoms of severe anxiety and psychological trauma such as palpitations, tremors, and extreme feeling of fear.

This community is predominantly occupied by Muslim-Maranaos, approximately 90% of the total population. One resident shared that other groups who are giving aids are afraid of going inside their community since it is a “Muslim” community which causes the inadequacy of the relief goods. So far, the community has received few cups of rice, 2 cans of sardines, few packs of instant noodles, and used clothes.

Let’s continue praying for an effective working relationship of the community people, local government unit, churches, non-government organizations, and other civil society organizations to address the pressing needs of the affected community in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.
